Friday MAY 16th 2014

The Festival took place on May 16th in the Plumpton Race Course VIP marquee; the children were delivered to and collected from the Race Course as if it were a normal school day.

The theme this year was song, story-telling and face painting. There were activities during the morning while each school in turn rehearsed for their dance performance.

Children gathered in a circle under a tree to listen to story-teller Jamie Crawford’s enthralling Sussex stories, and peripatetic music teacher Chris Booker taught everyone the history and song of the Royal Sussex regimental march, ‘Sussex by the Sea’ which they were to perform in the afternoon.

Several students recalled taking part during their primary school years in one of the early Festivals and were amused and thrilled to see photographs of themselves in the display of previous festivals in the entrance foyer!

After a picnic lunch parents, guardians, invited guests and sponsors of the event were welcomed by Festival director, Dave Johns and the performance opened with a very rousing and authentic ‘Sussex by the Sea,’ the children singing whilst marching on the spot.
